· The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department became the first state-certified Sheriff’s Department in Georgia under Conway’s leadership.
· Sheriff Conway formed the Family Violence Unit, which the Partnership Against Domestic Violence recognized for entering the most protective orders into the National Crime Information Center from the state of Georgia.
· The Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) program implemented under his leadership continues to win awards from the National Domestic Violence Hotline. VINE automatically calls and notifies registered parties upon the release of an inmate from jail.
· Sheriff Conway made the decision to discontinue the DARE program in order to implement a new program designed to meet the challenges faced by Gwinnett County students. Sheriff Conway and his staff wrote a new program called ADVANCE (Avoiding Drugs Violence and Negative Choices Early), and offered it to every elementary school using only half the staff the DARE program used. ADVANCE has received statewide recognition as well as interest from other school systems and law enforcement agencies.
· Sheriff Conway was one of the first in the state of Georgia to publish registered sex offenders on the Internet.
· The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department was the first in the nation to provide “live” inmate information via the Internet.
· Butch reinstated the fugitive unit to help apprehend the most dangerous and elusive criminals.
· As Sheriff, he established a Rapid Response Team to handle major incidents in the detention center.
· Sheriff Conway oversaw a cost saving expansion to the current detention facility adding 200 more beds to existing space to help alleviate overcrowding.
· He is currently overseeing a major jail expansion approved by voters in 2002.
