A 30-year resident of Gwinnett County, Sheriff Butch Conway has been involved in our community and held many diverse leadership roles making Butch uniquely qualified to be the Sheriff of Gwinnett County. He has served as the Chief of the Lawrenceville Police Department (1991-1996) and is a former member of the Lawrenceville City Council. He has served on numerous boards and currently serves as a board member on Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful's Citizen Advisory Board, the Graffiti Hurts Coalition and Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership. He also serves on the Legislative Committee of the Georgia Sheriff's Association and was the driving force behind law enforcement fundraising for Special Olympics Georgia.
Sheriff Conway has a long career in law enforcement beginning his service with the Gwinnett County Police Department when he was just 21-years-old. He remained with that department until 1984 rising to the rank of lieutenant. He served as a Gwinnett Magistrate Judge from 1984 to 1991. He briefly left law enforcement to found Precision Business Supplies, which he owned and operated until he became Lawrenceville Police Chief in 1991. He served until 1996 as Chief when he was elected Sheriff of Gwinnett County. |
